Treasure hunting at the Sunken Vessel

After the epic-ness of the last Crypt adventure, the Solo Bunch returned to Gloomhaven for a well-deserved rest.

At the Sleeping Lion, a rustic man in leather armour disturbed the party’s rest by asking for help to look out for his brother who is missing after going out hunting in Corpsewood. The party agreed and promised to keep an eye for the man’s brother the next time they venture out.

Instead of heading out on the road, the Treasure Map gained from a previous encounter seems tempting to the group. Who can resist the chance to pick up a bunch of loot? With the faded map, the party headed out from Gloomhaven to sea, eventually reaching an island.

As the party made their way up the shore on the beach, they saw the Sunken Vessel. But progress from the waters to the shore proved troublesome with everyone in the party suffering from Immobilize effect due to the sandy beach.

The enemies that greeted the party were a bunch of crab-like Lurkers, the same creature which they encountered back in Gloomhaven a while back.

As they fought their way up the beach, the Mystic Ally was summoned to help Weaver, and a Dangerous Contraption was summoned by Tinder. They proved really useful in the opening scenarios, but later on didn’t help much, as they moved slowly and couldn’t catch up with the rest of the group.

Lesson learnt: Don’t summon the creatures so early on such that they will be left behind.

As the party moved inland, the Dangerous Contraption’s attack came in handy to kill off another Lurker that appeared.

Reaching the Sunken Vessel, Weaver was the first to burst into the wreckage. A whole bunch of Living Spirits are there waiting!

The problem is that both Brutus and Tinder are still far behind, and Weaver had to deal with the onslaught of the Living Spirits which ganged up on her. Using the Invisibility Cloak helped for a short while, but she still suffered major lost in HP.

When Brutus caught up, Weaver jumped over some barrels and casted her Fire Orbs and cleared the room. With this attack, she had to bow out of the quest due to exhaustion, leaving the other two to carry on with the adventure.

Tinder moved forward to open the doors to the inner section of the wreck. Using a Weighted Net, he Immobilized more Living Spirits, mitigating the damage they may cause.

Seizing on the opportunity, Brutus rushed into the room with an Unstoppable Charge wearing the Boots of Striding. He was able to Stun the enemies and also killing the Elite Spirit.

After looting the Treasure Chest and also picking up the various gold around, Brutus did a Trample and finished off the final enemy.

Overall, this scenario was not too difficult, but again it was close. Losing Weaver was a blow, but some powerful moves helped at the end.

The result of this adventure is quite a bit of sweet treasure and for Brutus, picking up the Doomed Compass from the Treasure Chest is an added bonus. He also had enough XP to level up to Level 5.
